Our 2019 Babyzen Yoyo review covers an amazingly lightweight and sturdy compact stroller option. Weighing in at 13.7 lbs and carrying kids up to 40 lbs, the Babyzen Yoyo completely took over the compact stroller market when it first came out in 2012 as it was the first stroller to be accepted as carry-on luggage. The Babyzen Yoyo doubles as an everyday stroller and a travel stroller perfect for urban parents and those who are looking for a quality travel stroller that will get frequent use.

Who can use the stroller?
The BabyZen Yoyo comes in two styles – 6+ and 0+. The 6+ can be used starting at 6 months, and the 0+ can be used from birth with their newborn kit which transforms the stroller into a parent facing lay fat bassinet set up. The bassinet set up features a 5-point harness and densely cushioned carrycot so your baby stays secure and comfortable as you stroll around and doesn’t roll around unintentionally. The Babyzen yoyo weight limit can accommodate toddlers up to 40 lbs/18kgs. The Yoyo stroller weight limit and the newborn kit makes this the only stroller parents will need from birth through toddlerhood.
Overall size + weight
The Yoyo stroller weight clocks in at 13.7 lbs and can fit in the overhead bins of most airlines or the trunks of even the smallest cars. The Babyzen Yoyo dimensions are 17.3″ long x 21.5″ wide x 12” tall folded, making this one of the smallest strollers on the market.
Unfolded it measures 41.7” tall x 33.9” deep x 17.3” wide. The Yoyo is the tallest compact stroller on the market that we have tested, but still comfortable for shorter users.
Handlebar design & positioning
The rounded, fixed handlebar on the Yoyo reaches 41.7” tall at its peak making the stroller a comfortable push for taller parents. No other compact strollers offer adjustable handlebars, so this design is in line with the category. The handlebar is rounded and covered in foam. While easy to push overall, the rounded handlebar design can make it slightly more challenging to push unless you are pushing from the center of the handlebar. Overall this is a very comfortable stroller to push.
When the Yoyo is folded closed it has a built-in padded shoulder strap that you can sling over your shoulder to walk up a flight of subway stairs or as you board your plane. There is also a handle that helps easily load it into the back of your car or wherever you store it.Buy Babyzen Yoyo Now
Quality & Design
The Yoyo is a very solid compact stroller and passes our very official wiggle test (where we hold the handlebar and shake it back and forth). The aluminum frame creates a very sturdy, yet lightweight base for the stroller that allows for little wiggle room as you are strolling around.
Design-wise, this is a sleek and high-end looking stroller. In fact, Babyzen touts the stroller as the “world’s first luxury travel stroller”. The Babyzen Yoyo frame comes in black and white options. The black Yoyo creates a sleek overall look while the Babyzen Yoyo white frame gives a fresh look to the stroller. The fabric is soft and comfortable so your baby can happily spend time in as you are out strolling.
The Yoyo stroller colors come in nine bold options – black, ginger, grey, peppermint, red, taupe, aqua, Air France blue, and toffee. The color combinations are refreshing as they are not typical baby colors or standard primary colors (although, the original strollers did feature more standard primary colors). All fabrics are machine washable on cold so you don’t have to worry about your child’s inevitable spills, blowouts, and general wear.
The Babyzen Yoyo is a solidly built stroller that you can expect to last you longer than your child needs it. The original models can still be found strolling around and the updated models are built even better. The stroller is covered under a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty, so you can expect it to last well beyond that time frame.Buy Babyzen Yoyo Now
The Yoyo is very easy to push and doesn’t take much effort to stop or start moving. You can easily make turns and the small footprint makes it a breeze for navigating tight spaces or crowded streets. This stroller can easily be operated with a single hand which is made even easier thanks to the curved handlebar.
The front wheels do not lock for navigating rougher terrain, but the Babyzen Yoyo wheels feature a patented “soft-drive” system which helps eliminates wobbliness on grass and bumps. Given the size of the wheels, this is a stroller better suited to urban environments, but can make it through challenging ground in a pinch. The 5” rubber wheels easily glide over looser surfaces without getting anything stuck in the wheels. The Yoyo stroller is best on flat and mostly flat surfaces and it will likely struggle on loose gravel and heavy grass.
While the Babyzen Yoyo wheels are well constructed, the layout may be slightly problematic to some. The back wheels are set close together, while the front wheels splay out slightly. This design causes you to kick the back wheels from time to time which can be a bit annoying.
The Yoyo features a single red brake positioned near the back right wheel. To activate the brake, step on the red lever. To unlock the brake, lift the red lever. This can be done in sandals but it may scratch your toes or nice leather shoes.
The Babyzen Yoyo canopy is medium in size and features two UPF 50 panels plus a pop-out extension. This extension can be folded back up into the canopy when not wanted. Overall the canopy is not the largest we’ve seen and creates a somewhat closed-off space for taller riders. The canopy features an exposed plastic peekaboo window. There are no options for airflow built into the canopy.Buy Babyzen Yoyo Now
Basket + Storage
Storage on all compact and travel strollers leave something to be desired. The basket on the Yoyo is medium in size and works best for stuffing loose items – balls, jackets, pails for the playground, etc. There are two bars that block access to the basket in the front which keeps you from using it to hold larger bags and items. The basket can hold up to 11 lbs and is 15” wide at the front, but only 9” wide in the back. Another great feature of the basket is the Babyzen Yoyo footrest that is built into the basket. It is a solid step on the front that empowers young climbers to get into the seat on their own.
There is a zippered storage pocket on the back of the canopy for storing little odds and ends – extra binkies, sunglasses, etc. We personally like to use it to hold our phones that are often used for impromptu sound machines during on-the-go naps. The pocket can hold up to 1lb. On the back of the seat there is a mesh elastic pocket which is great to store the rain cover or other items you’d like quick access to.
Fold & Unfold
The Yoyo folding stroller features a 2-step fold. The first step can be done with your child still strapped in the seat. On the base of the canopy are two buttons underneath the two printed circles on the fabric. Press them (one with each hand) and fold the canopy back towards you until it locks. The next step requires you to remove your baby. Once they are safely in your arms, take one hand and reach under the seat from the back. You’ll feel a button and a lever. Press the button and pull the lever towards you to fold the stroller. Once folded, the automatic lock keeps the stroller in its folded position.
Babyzen claims their stroller is a single hand fold, but if you account for both steps of the folding process, this simply isn’t true. The stroller can be folded in both the 0+ and 6+ configurations. Please always engage the brake and make sure the seat is in its fully upright position before folding.
The stroller is very easy to unfold and can be done with just one hand. Just release the lock, grab the handlebar, and flip the stroller open.
Seat Design & Comfort
The Yoyo features a densely padded seat that is deep enough to keep your child comfortable while they are riding. The stroller does not come with a leg rest, but one is now available as an additional accessory. If you plan to be going for longer strolls, this would be a very wise purchase to increase your child’s comfort and encourage on-the-go naps.Buy Babyzen Yoyo Now
Harness + Buckle
The Yoyo has a 5-pt harness with padded shoulder straps. The straps can be adjusted in 4 different places. The top straps can slide up and down to loosen or tighten. We do wish these were able to get a bit tighter because even at their smallest configuration, they are loose on smaller riders. Because they are so loose, little ones are easily able to take their arms out of the straps. The lower straps are easily adjustable by pulling the ends of each strap until they reach your desired tightness. If you have an older toddler who doesn’t need the 5-pt harness, the shoulder straps can unhook from the buckle so you only have the lowers.
The buckle is very easy to use. One of our 20-month old testers was easily able to buckle herself in and even gets excited to help out. Simply push the button and both straps pop open. Despite our testers attempts, she isn’t able to open the buckle on her own.
The seat design is pretty open which allows for airflow around your babe, keeping them cool and comfortable. While the canopy can be a little tight when fully extended, the rest of the seat is quite open to keep air circulation around them.
Recline & Ease of Use
The Babyzen Yoyo reclines to 145 degrees and can be raised to 115 degrees. The seatback is kept upright by a webbing strap with a toggle on the back. To recline, release the toggle by lifting the right end towards the left. To raise, pull the end of the loose strap.
The Yoyo recline is OK for on-the-go napping, but not the best in the category of travel and compact strollers. The stroller could benefit from a flatter napping surface. Alternatively, when in its fully raised height, the seat is still pretty reclined. As many kids like to sit very upright, there are 3rd-party products to help raise the seat more upright.
Seat: 13” wide x 9.4” deep
Headrest height: 17 inches
Headroom height from seat base: 24”
The leg rest accessory comes at an additional cost but allows you to position your child’s legs in multiple positions. The leg rest is rounded but measures 12.6” wide and 6.3” at its deepest point.
All Babyzen Yoyo fabrics are machine washable on cold. Despite some pretty intense spills, all easily washed out in our testing. After washing, the material looks brand new. As we all know babies and toddlers are known for being messy, and we think this should be standard for every stroller manufacturer.Buy Babyzen Yoyo Now
Expansion Options & Versatility

The Babyzen iZi Go Modular by BeSafe is outfitted with the same great fabrics as the Yoyo stroller, so you can be sure your baby will be comfortable as they rest. The car seat features a large UPF 50 canopy and 5-pt harness. The Babyzen Yoyo infant car seat is not yet available in the US or Canada.
Additionally, the Babyzen Yoyo car seat adapter allows you to use your Cybex (excluding Cybex Cloud Q due to the overall weight of the seat exceeding the stroller’s weight limit), Maxi-Cosi and Nuna car seats. Exact models include BeSafe® iZi Go, iZi Go ModularTM, Bébé Confort® Pebble, Bébé Confort® Pebble Plus, Cybex® Aton Q, Maxi-Cosi® Pebble, Maxi-Cosi® Pebble Plus, Maxi-Cosi® Mico AP, and Nuna® Pipa. Customer Service & Warranty
The Yoyo comes with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty for the original owner. This covers all manufacturing defects on the chassis, frame, and wheels and all the textiles pieces and harness of the Babyzen strollers. What is NOT covered is damage from improper use/care, wear from normal daily use of the handlebar and fabrics, and holes/tears in the tires. Babyzen does sell replacement wheels if this occurs.
Available Babyzen Yoyo Accessories
Babyzen Yoyo Stroller accessories are very popular with owners and add a lot of variety and functionality to your stroller. The right accessories can truly transform your time out and about so are worth considering.
Babyzen Yoyo Rain Cover
Rain covers are included with both the 6+ and 0+ configurations and come with a storage pouch. We like to place the rain cover in the back mesh pocket so you always have it available should an unsuspecting shower come through. The rain covers are PVC-free, flexible and easy to put on your stroller.
To attach the 6+ version, simply place the elastic portion on the back of your canopy and lay over the stroller. Attach the different velcro ties and elastic to keep it in place. The 6+ version features a wire arch to keep the cover off your child’s legs as you stroll. There are also small holes in the side for airflow. The rain cover does leave the canopy pocket exposed which is not ideal.
To attach the 0+ version, place the cover over the canopy. Next, secure the velcro around the stroller handlebars. Next, velcro the ends of the rain cover flaps together. Finally, secure the elastic loops to keep the cover in place. The 0+ configuration has larger holes in it so you can easily reach inside and touch your baby without deconstructing the whole setup.
Babyzen Yoyo Umbrella & Parasol
If you are after a bit more shade or extra rain protection for your little one, the parasol is your solution. The parasol comes in all Babyzen fabric colors and can be attached to both the 6+ and 0+ configurations. A clamp-on design easily attaches to the stroller frame and the adjustable neck allows you to position for the best coverage. The parasol is 24” wide.Buy Parasol Now
Babyzen Yoyo Leg Rest
One of the major design flaws of the Yoyo had been its lack of a leg rest making the stroller more challenging for napping while out and about. The folks at Babyzen heard our complaints and have released a leg rest attachment. It attaches to the forward part of the stroller seat very easily and can be adjusted to multiple positions. The stroller can be folded with the leg rest on in the down position.
Babyzen Yoyo Footmuff
For cold weather strolling, you can attach a Babyzen Yoyo Footmuff that features a warm and cozy, yet breathable setting for your babe. It features a polar hood and drawstring to keep them bundled on very cold days. The front portion can be positioned at different levels or completely unzipped and taken off. The footmuff features anti-dirt protection on the lower portion so you don’t have to worry about all that wet snow or dirt. The footmuff comes in all nine Babyzen colors. The stroller can be folded with the footmuff installed, but it will need to be removed to use the travel bag. It comes with its own duffle bag for storage while traveling. After a season in the North East US, our tester stayed warm all winter long.Buy Footmuff Now
Babyzen Travel Bag
The Yoyo comes with a dust bag, but any serious travelers should consider the travel bag which offers more sturdy protection. When the stroller is in the travel bag you can carry it by the built-in backpack straps, the stroller handlebar, or the stroller’s carry strap. The bag fully unzips making sliding the stroller in and out a breeze.Buy Travel Bag Now
Babyzen Yoyo Cup Holder
The Babyzen Yoyo cup holder can clip onto the stroller frame in multiple positions due to its “shape memory hook”. You can attach one for you and one for baby! Inside the cup holder there are grips to keep your beverage secure so it doesn’t jiggle around. You can fold the stroller with the cup holder in place, but it does add to the overall stroller footprint.
Users of the cup holder have mixed reviews of the product, so you may want to consider a universal organizer like the one from Skip Hop.Buy Cup Holder Now
Babyzen Yoyo Bag
If you are looking for an option to carry extra stuff around with you during your outings, the Babyzen Yoyo Rolling Bag allows you to carry an extra 22lbs without worrying about your stroller tipping over with the extra weight on the handlebar. The bag sits on a rolling base and easily attaches to the stroller frame. The bag features two handles that you can hold to carry the bag when the stroller is folded up. The stroller can fold with the rolling base attached.Buy Babyzen Bag Now
Babyzen Mosquito Net
If you live in or are traveling to an area where mosquitoes are an issue, you may want to get the mosquito net. It attaches to the stroller similarly to the rain cover. There are two separate covers for the 6+ and 0+ models. The nets keep the bugs off your babe, but still lets air flow through.Buy Mosquito Net Now Buy Babyzen Yoyo Now
